A giant broken glasses belonging to Chile’s former President Salvador Allende

A giant replica of the broken glasses belonging to Chile’s former President Salvador Allende is displayed outside La Moneda government palace in Santiago, Thursday, June 26, 2008. Chileans are marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Allende, who was toppled in the bloody 1973 coup led by Gen. Augusto Pinochet. Allende committed suicide the day of the coup, Sept. 11, 1973, rather than surrender to the rebellious military.
