How could men breastfeed babies?

How for a Man to Breastfeed?

It’s of course a phenomena, and most of it returns to the use of medications that stimulate a human male’s mammary glands. Although men do have nipples, but it’s so rare to get to understand that they also have mammary glands. Naturally the mammary tissue is low in volume almost goes unnoticed. And in normal cases, they appear and starts to provide to females when they become pregnant and give birth, the mammary glands in men can also produce milk. Though low in relativity to that of a lactating female.
Men lactation is most commonly caused by the following reasons:

  • Female hormonal treatments those used in a case of men suffering from prostate cancer.
  • A regular stimulation to the nipples.
  • Male to female transsexuals produce milk due to the hormones they take to reshape their bodies.
  • Extreme stress combined with demanding physical activity and a shortage of food can cause male lactation.
  • The psychological need for men to breastfeed their babies due to the illness of their wives or when they become widowed.

Orange® news-channel 2004, came across a Sri Lankan widower who has attracted the attention of doctors for his ability to breastfeed his young daughter, he took to breastfeeding her soon after his wife died three month ago while giving birth to their second child. He said he couldn’t stand seeing his baby crying all the time, so he offered her his breast. And that’s when he discovered that he could breast feed her.

Women and men have exactly the same physical apparatus for making milk, when a baby suckles at the breast, hormones are produced which causes milk production to increase. The more the baby sucks, the more milk is made. So all a man has to do to get his breasts to produce milk is to let the baby suck at them. Researches have proved that pregnancy is not a pre-requisite for making milk. As many women who adopt babies have a desire to breastfeed them and are successful in creating milk by this simple method of letting the baby suck.
But why would a man want to make milk? The primary reason that men have desired this is because of expediency. In ancient times, there are records of historical accounts of the man simply picking up where the wife left off, and with great success for the survival of his child.

Another funny source I found at the Guardian newspaper, an article entitled: Are the men of the African Aka tribe, the best fathers in the world? As while the women hunt, the men look after the babies – even letting them suck their nipples. The community of the Aka is fascinating, as that male and female roles are virtually interchangeable. While the women hunt, the men mind the children; while the men cook, the women decide where to set up the next camp. And vice versa. There is a sexual division of labor in the Aka community, and there absolutely no stigma involved in the different jobs.
After the publication was issued, a chat show offered a discussion on fathers breastfeed, some fathers phoned in to say they’d let their child suck their nipples, but some people were disgusted. And the word child abuse came up more than one. Which points up interesting cultural differences when you that that to Aka people. Much of the way we raise out kids would count as child abuse to them.
