Press reports said that the annual volume of Mafia transactions is estimated for 90 billion Euros, thus it becomes “the most leading organization in Italy.” The newspaper “Correia declared” quoted from the Association of trading and businessmen sources that what Mafia got in Italy through royalties, illegally lending, exaggerated interests, smuggling, and many other criminal activities tied to 7% of the GDP.
Report issued by the Association declared that the traders who are subjected to blackmail pay only for the leaders of Mafia gangs around six billion Euros for the so-called “royalties.” The report pointed out that about 132 thousand out of the total 160 thousand shops, restaurants and companies affected by this issue based in southern Italy, particularly in Sicily and Campania, Calabria and Puglia.
Mafia has got 12 billion Euros by exaggerated interests on loans as the major firms also been subject to extortion. On the other hand, the report pointed out that the Mafia contributed to the cessation of approximately 165 thousand commercial activities in addition to the closure of 50 thousand hotels.The report also pointed out that the one who wishes to sell products on the market day in the city of Napoli must pay from five to ten Euros for Alkamura gang pointing out that this is not confined to the south only, but also extends to the north.
