Is it optical illusion or mind misinterpretation?

It is a cold day, and I’m surfing the net with a cup of hot chocolate in my left hand.

I stumbled upon a strange image with title “what do you think you see? “

The image is spread all over the web with an implication that it is a sexy picture. So men see it as following

However, it is not true. Oh, It is a lamp and the skinny color is the background wall. So I was stopped by a question. Do women see this image as men saw it? I asked my wife to see the image. She immediately said it is a lamp. I’m amazed by the direct reply, so I made another search and found a great blog that owned by Richard Wiseman, he asked his visitors to tell him what they say if they are either males or females. I read the comments and I found that most females saw the lamp immediately. So clearly  the same thing can be seen differently from one person to another.  So From where does this difference come?

Clearly,  the visual perception is affected by human sex his culture and environment. This theory was first explored by Robert Laws, a Scottish missionary working in Malawi, Africa, during the late 1800′s.

There is also another example, which explains another difference but this time between adults and young children.

For adults, the above image is for a couple in intimate love position, While it is nine small black and white dolphins for children. Wow , it is a big difference but from where does it come from? It is also because the perception of children will never identify the couples because they don’t have prior memory associated with such a scenario.

So, all eyes are different  and everyone has his own vision because it is completely based on how the mind interprets what is seen.  In order to make sense of the world, our brains try to see patterns or shapes that we can easily recognize. And our source is completely affected by our cultures, educations and environment. The illusion results from misinterpretation of the mind to a certain pattern or situation.

Benjamin Franklin said “ believes half of what you see and none of what you hear”
